A native of Elon, N.C., Dr. Matkins graduated from Davidson College in 1988. He then attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, he met his wife, Preeti, who is a pediatrician. After graduating from medical school in 1992, they came to Charlotte to complete residency at Carolinas Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Matkins practiced in Gastonia for seven years, where he served as chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Gaston Memorial Hospital before his return to Charlotte in 2003.
Dr. Matkins enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and attempting to train his boxer, Sam. He also enjoys golf, sailing, and skiing.
Professionally, Dr. Matkins enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. He has a special interest in female incontinence, advanced laparoscopic surgery, and pelvic reconstruction.
