Dr. Lucas is a native of Charlotte. He attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory (B.S., Biology, 1978) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (M.D., 1982) prior to his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Florida, Tampa. He and his wife of 34 years have two adult children with professional degrees and a younger daughter who attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The family is involved in a number of community endeavors and in Myers Park Presbyterian Church, where he serves on the Board of Deacons, Health Ministries, and the Congo Mission Team.
In addition to a busy full-time schedule, Dr. Lucas is involved in a number of professional and leadership roles locally, regionally, and nationally. He is the current Vice-President of the Medical Staff of Carolinas Medical Center, serves as Chair of the Credentials Committee and in numerous other hospital capacities. He is President-Elect of the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and serves on the Medical Benevolence Foundation Board of Trustees in Houston, TX. His interests include gardening, travel, food and wine. He continues to strive for a decent golf score-maybe his biggest nemesis.
